Denver Broncos rookie running back Phillip Lindsay was ejected late in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens for throwing a punch.

After Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs strip-sacked Broncos quarterback Case Keenum, a pile of players scrambled for the loose ball. Lindsay came flying into the pile late and appeared to jab a few times with his right hand at Ravens linebacker Matt Judon's arms, as Judon tried to push Lindsay away from the ball.

Multiple flags were thrown, and after a long delay, referee Ron Torbert announced the Broncos had recovered, before giving Lindsay a 15-yard penalty and an ejection.

Lindsay had four carries for 20 yards before departing. He entered Week 3 as the NFL's third-leading rusher, behind only Matt Breida and Joe Mixon.

Lindsay, an undrafted rookie from Colorado, also was serving as the team's kick returner with cornerback Adam Jones inactive.

His ejection was one of two in the first half of a game on the early Sunday slate. Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Akeem Spence also was ejected during the second quarter of his team's game against the Oakland Raiders after he pulled off the helmet of Raiders guard Kelechi Osemele following an altercation. Spence was given a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness.

In the first two weeks of the season, Bengals safety Shawn Williams and Falcons safety Damontae Kazee was kicked out of games in Weeks 1 and 2, respectively, for hits to the helmet of sliding quarterbacks.
