Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson has carted off the field and taken to a nearby hospital after injuring his ankle in Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.
Wilkerson could not put any weight on his leg after he was inadvertently hit low by teammate safety Kentrell Brice on a defensive play. Fellow defensive linemen Kenny Clark and Mike Daniels comforted Wilkerson as a cart approached.
The 28-year-old Wilkerson signed a one-year, $6 million deal with Green Bay this offseason after spending his first seven seasons with the New York Jets. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and hoped for a big season with the Packers that would catapult him into another free agent contract.
Wilkerson never has missed more than three games in a season. He entered Sunday with 44.5 sacks and 11 forced fumbles in 107 games (103 starts).
