India's DP Manu clinched the gold medal in the men's javelin throw event at the Taiwan Open 2024, marking an impressive throw of 81.58 meters in Taipei on Saturday.

The Asian Athletics Championship silver medallist delivered his best throw in his final attempt, highlighting his competitive spirit. Hosted by the World Athletics Continental Tour, the Taiwan Open is a crucial bronze-level meet that awards important ranking points.

Manu's series of throws showcased his progression throughout the competition, beginning with throws of 78.32m and 76.80m. His determined efforts peaked at 80.59m and 81.52m in his third and fifth attempts, respectively. Although he faced a hiccup with an invalid fourth attempt, Manu concluded the event on a high note.

However, his latest feat fell short of his personal best of 84.35m and his season-best of 82.06m, achieved at the Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar last month, where he finished second to Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra. Currently, Manu has yet to qualify for the Paris Olympics, which requires a mark of 85.50m. In contrast, Chopra and Kishore Jena have already secured their spots for the Olympics.

The events also saw notable performances from Nithya Ramraj, who clocked 13.23 seconds to secure second place in the women's 100m hurdles, and VK Vismaya, who finished third in the women's 400m final with a time of 53.49 seconds. Additionally, Rosy Meena, the Federation Cup winner, secured sixth place in the women's pole vault with an effort of 3.75m.
