New York Red Bulls midfielder Lewis Morgan has been summoned to join Scotland's injury-ravaged European Championship squad. This late inclusion means Morgan will miss a critical stretch of the Major League Soccer season.
The Scottish soccer federation, on Thursday, confirmed that the 27-year-old was picked by head coach Steve Clarke. Morgan, who has only two previous appearances for Scotland, last donned the national jersey in November 2019 while playing for Celtic.
After stints with Inter Miami and New York Red Bulls, Morgan could be absent for at least five MLS games in June due to his participation in Euro 2024 in Germany.
Scotland urgently needed reinforcements after losing key players, including forward Lyndon Dykes and Liverpool's Ben Doak, both to injuries in the past week. Additionally, Lewis Ferguson from Bologna was ruled out in April with a serious knee injury.
Morgan and Tommy Conway of Bristol City, another late addition, will be present for Scotland's final warm-up match against Finland on Friday. Scotland kicks off its Euro 2024 campaign against host nation Germany in Munich on June 14, followed by crucial matches against Hungary and Switzerland, as they aim to advance to the knockout stages for the first time in a major tournament.
