East Bengal announced on Friday the signing of Greek striker Dimitrios Diamantakos for the upcoming Indian Super League season.
The 31-year-old, who has significant experience including stints with Kerala Blasters since 2022, expressed excitement about playing in front of East Bengal's passionate fan base. 'Everyone knows that East Bengal has one of the greatest fan bases in Asia. I can't wait to play in front of them,' Diamantakos said in a media release.
Diamantakos aims to help his team achieve their goals and bring joy to the supporters. Having made his professional debut with Greek giants Olympiacos in 2012, Diamantakos has scored 81 club goals in 261 outings, and has considerable experience in top UEFA competitions.
For Kerala Blasters, Diamantakos netted 28 goals and made seven assists in 44 appearances, earning the Golden Boot last season with 13 goals in 17 ISL games. The striker's major title to date is the Super League Greece with Olympiacos in 2014-15.
East Bengal head coach Carles Cuadrat expressed optimism about Diamantakos' impact on the team, highlighting his adaptation to India and the ISL. 'We had a fruitful conversation with him, which convinced him to join us. He had offers from various clubs but believed in our project and chose Emami East Bengal,' Cuadrat added.
