NFL notebook: Ravens stick with Harbaugh

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh will be retained next season and the two sides are working on a contract extension to keep him with the Ravens beyond next season, the team announced Friday. The news came a month or so after speculation abounded around the NFL that the Ravens would fire Harbaugh after the season, despite his career 112-77 record, including a 10-5 mark in the playoffs.

Panthers S Reid: NFL fined me $20k for legal play

Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid on Friday offered further proof of what he alleges is a campaign by the NFL to target him because of his ongoing grievance against the league. Reid tweeted a video of a play from Monday night's 12-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints in which Reid dove toward Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas as Thomas was being spun out of bounds by Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly.

Yankees' Sabathia undergoes angioplasty

New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia recently underwent angioplasty to clear a blocked artery, his agent announced Friday. Kyle Thousand of Roc Nation Sports issued a statement that read, "CC was experiencing some chest pain which turned out to be a blockage in one artery to his heart. A procedure was done to insert a stent to clear the blockage on Dec. 11. CC is doing great and will be reporting to spring training on time to get ready to play for his upcoming final season in 2019."

WADA denied Moscow lab data access, leaving Russia facing ban

Russia's Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) is again on the verge of suspension after a World Anti-Doping Agency inspection team visiting a Moscow laboratory was denied access to raw data to complete its full reinstatement, WADA said on Friday. The five-member WADA team had spent a week in Russia but left the Moscow lab and returned home frustrated and without having retrieved any of the data in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) it had been promised access to.

Reigning NHL MVP Taylor Hall scored two goals and added two assists as the New Jersey Devils routed the Ottawa Senators 5-2 on Friday night in Newark, N.J. New Jersey referee suspended after forcing black wrestler to have haircut

A New Jersey high school referee was suspended after a video showed a black wrestler being forced to have his hair cut before a bout after being told he would have to forfeit the match if he refused, according to state athletic officials on Saturday. The video, which was uploaded on Twitter on Thursday by a reporter from SNJ Today newspaper, showed Andrew Johnson of Buena Regional High School in Buena, New Jersey, getting his dreadlocks hairstyle cut off by a school official. Moments later, Johnson, who is black, won his match against his opponent.

LeBron slams NFL owners for 'slave mentality'

LeBron James slammed NFL owners for their treatment of players, calling them "old white men" with a "slave mentality" on Friday's episode of his HBO series "The Shop." MLB notebook: Dodgers deal Puig, Kemp to Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded outfielders Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig to the Cincinnati Reds, the teams announced Friday. Left-hander Alex Wood and backup catcher Kyle Farmer also were sent to Cincinnati, which dealt right-hander Homer Bailey to the Dodgers. Los Angeles sent $7 million to the Reds.
