Indian Super League (ISL) team Jamshedpur FC has fortified its goalkeeping department with the acquisition of veteran goalkeeper Albino Gomes on a two-year contract, with an option to extend based on performance. Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall, the experienced 30-year-old shot-stopper boasts an impressive 32 clean sheets in both the ISL and I-League, making him a valuable asset for the Men of Steel. In 2017, Gomes played a pivotal role in Aizawl FC’s stunning I-League triumph under coach Khalid Jamil, achieving eight clean sheets in 18 matches, according to an ISL release.

Gomes, who has a history of pivotal performances for teams across the ISL and I-League, was instrumental in Sreenidi Deccan FC's runner-up finish in the I-League's 2022-23 season, where he secured seven clean sheets. “I’m thrilled to be back in the ISL with Jamshedpur FC, a club with rich history and passionate fans. Playing under coach Khalid Jamil again is an opportunity I cherish, and I aim to solidify my place among the top goalkeepers in India,” Gomes said. Despite battling injuries in recent seasons, Gomes is determined to make a significant mark with Jamshedpur FC.

Gomes started his youth career at Sporting Clube de Goa before stints at Salgaocar FC from 2013-2015. He debuted in the ISL with Mumbai City FC in 2015, moved to Aizawl FC in 2016-17, and was crucial in their championship-winning campaign. Post-Aizawl, Gomes joined Delhi Dynamos (now Odisha FC) in 2017-18, but his season was cut short by a knee injury. After recovery, he played for Odisha FC in 2019-20 and then Kerala Blasters FC in 2020. Subsequent stints at Churchill Brothers in 2022 and Sreenidi Deccan FC in 2023 followed. Head coach Khalid Jamil lauded Gomes, stating, “I've witnessed his abilities firsthand, and I am confident he will excel in his role. His rich experience across ISL and I-League, coupled with his physicality and synergy with the team, make him a significant addition,” the release concluded. (ANI)
