MotoGP Shifts Kazakhstan Race to Italy Amid Flooding Issues
MotoGP has moved a scheduled race from Kazakhstan to Italy's Misano circuit due to logistical issues from regional flooding. The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will now occur on Sept. 20-22. The sport's season concludes in Valencia, Spain, on Nov. 17 after wrapping up its Asian leg in Indonesia.
MotoGP has canceled the much-anticipated race in Kazakhstan due to significant flooding and logistical complications in the region, opting instead for a backup plan. The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will now take place at Italy's Misano circuit from September 20-22, as confirmed by MotoGP promoter Dorna on Monday.
The race in Kazakhstan had already been delayed, having initially been slotted to replace India's round, which was itself canceled in May for operational reasons. The flooding in Kazakhstan led to the evacuation of nearly 117,000 people, according to the country's emergencies ministry.
Misano's Marco Simoncelli circuit, which was already scheduled to host the San Marino Grand Prix on September 6-8, will now see back-to-back races before the MotoGP season shifts to Indonesia. The season will wrap up with its final race in Valencia, Spain, on November 17.
