Rafael Nadal made a triumphant return to the clay courts after a 19-year hiatus, stepping into the Nordea Open on Monday alongside Casper Ruud. The duo clinched a first-round victory against second-seeded Guido Andreozzi and Miguel Reyes-Varela, delighting a packed crowd that came to witness Nadal's comeback.

Nadal revisits the Nordea Open, where he won his first singles title as a 19-year-old in 2005, as part of his preparation for the Olympic tournament on clay at Roland Garros in Paris. This marks his first tour match since his first-round exit in the French Open to Alexander Zverev.

The 38-year-old Spaniard had elected to forego Wimbledon to avoid transitioning between surfaces and risking further injury, having struggled with hip and abdominal issues. On Tuesday, Nadal will face off against Leo Borg, son of Swedish tennis legend Bjorn Borg, in the Bastad singles tournament.
