Southampton have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Flynn Downes from West Ham United on a four-year contract, solidifying their squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at St Mary's, making a significant impact by contributing to the team's promotion via the Championship playoffs. Downes made 37 appearances, scored twice, and provided three assists across different competitions.

The transfer fee, reportedly around £18 million, reflects the club's priority to secure his services early in the pre-season. Manager Russell Martin expressed his delight, highlighting Downes' influence both on and off the pitch, and his technical and athletic abilities.
