Bengaluru FC announced on Tuesday the acquisition of Spanish midfielder Pedro Capo, securing his services on a one-year contract.
The 33-year-old versatile midfielder, who can also play as a centre-back, most recently featured for Segunda Division side Eldense CF. In a statement released by Bengaluru FC, Capo expressed his excitement about joining one of India’s premier football clubs, stating, 'The opportunity to come to India presented itself a few years ago, but I felt the time was not right. My conversations with Gerard Zaragoza have given me a lot of enthusiasm, and I think now is the right time for me to move to India and live an intense experience.'
Capo started his football journey in the youth academies of La Salle Mahon, Atletico Villacarlos, and Penya Cuitadella, before moving to Segunda Division B side Sporting Mahones in 2009. Over his career, he has accumulated over 350 appearances with various Spanish clubs, including Celta de Vigo B, RCD Mallorca B, CD Atletico Baleares, Arroyo CP, CD Llosetense, SD Leioa, and CE Sabadell FC. In 2021, he joined Eldense CF in the Segunda Division, eventually captaining the squad.
Bengaluru FC's Director of Football, Darren Caldeira, praised Capo's consistent performance across his career, stating, 'He is capable of playing in several defensive positions, and we believe his abilities will compliment those of the players around him. He also brings with him rich experience of playing in some of the toughest leagues in Spain, which I am sure he will impart to the young players on the squad.'
Capo becomes the seventh addition to the squad under Head Coach Gerard Zaragoza, who commended the midfielder's leadership and defensive skills. 'Pedro is a player with immense experience in the Spanish Segunda B and one who I am sure will do well for us. His tactical intelligence and physical presence will be crucial to our efforts this season.'
The Blues will begin their 2024-25 campaign with a Durand Cup match against the Indian Navy Football Team on July 31st in Kolkata.
