Chris Silverwood, fresh off his resignation as Sri Lanka's head coach, has secured a position within English cricket. Silverwood has joined the Oval Invincibles as an assistant coach in the Hundred tournament.
The move comes after Sri Lanka's disappointing exit from the group stage of the T20 World Cup. Silverwood replaces Azhar Mahmood, who has taken on a role with the Pakistan team earlier this year. He will work under head coach Tom Moody, alongside Matt Walker and Jim Troughton, as part of the Invincibles' coaching staff.
Silverwood's previous coaching experience includes serving as England's fast bowling coach in 2018, which followed his success with Essex in the County Championship. He eventually became the head coach of England in 2019, leading the team across all formats until parting ways after a 4-0 defeat to Australia in early 2022.
In related news, James Foster returns to the Hundred after his tenure with Northern Superchargers ended last year. Now, he joins the London Spirit, replacing Paul Collingwood as an assistant coach under Trevor Bayliss.
The London Spirit have further bolstered their coaching staff by adding Yorkshire men's assistant Ali Maiden and Sunrisers' Marc Broom. One of the standout appointments in the Hundred this year saw Andrew Flintoff take over as head coach of the Superchargers, succeeding Foster. Flintoff's debut game will be against the Trent Rockets at Headingley on Friday.
