Japan responded with a try from Dylan Riley at the end of the first half, taking advantage of Italy being a man down after Ross Vintcent received a yellow card. Riley struck again three minutes into the second half, reducing Italy's lead to 24-14 after intercepting a pass from Paolo Garbisi.
Italy regained control through two penalties from Page-Relo and cemented their victory with tries from Alessandro Garbisi and Vintcent. Quesada praised the performance but acknowledged discipline issues, highlighted by two yellow cards in the second half.
