Former Indian cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath has openly criticized national selectors for overlooking Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The tour is scheduled to begin on July 27 with separate captains for the T20I and ODI formats.
Badrinath, speaking on his YouTube channel, suggested that the selection process seems to favor players with high media visibility and controversial lifestyles over consistent performers like Singh and Gaikwad. Singh, who boasts impressive stats, including 416 runs in 15 T20I innings, was ignored for the ODI squad. Similarly, Gaikwad, despite his commendable performance in T20Is, was snubbed from the T20I squad for the tour.
The India-Sri Lanka tour will include three T20I matches starting on July 27, followed by three ODIs beginning on August 2. The games will be held at Pallekele International Stadium and R Premadasa Stadium. Both teams will field new head coaches, with Sanath Jayasuriya and Gautam Gambhir taking charge of Sri Lanka and India respectively.
