Jonas Vingegaard will not be competing at the Vuelta a Espana, the Visma-Lease a Bike rider announced following his second-place finish in a demanding Tour de France. Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar achieved the historic Giro d'Italia and Tour de France double, winning his third tour title by defeating the defending champion Vingegaard.

The Danish cyclist, who claimed the last two Tour titles, entered this year's race after a three-month hiatus due to multiple severe injuries, including a collapsed lung and fractured rib sustained in a crash at the Tour of the Basque Country in April. Despite his struggles, he managed to secure a stage win but ultimately couldn't retain his title.

"I'm tired, I don't think I've ever been this tired after a Grand Tour before. To be honest, I'm exhausted," Vingegaard told Eurosport. "I want to come back and win it again, but right now I need some rest." Vingegaard will not participate in the Vuelta a Espana or the Paris Games starting Friday. The Danish men’s road cycling team will comprise Mads Pedersen, Mattias Skjelmose, Michael Morkov, and Mikkel Bjerg.
