East Bengal FC head coach Carles Cuadrat underscored the significance of winning matches and being competitive as his team prepares for the 2024-25 season, starting with the 133rd edition of the Durand Cup. The Red and Gold Brigade hosted a squad unveiling event on Tuesday, showcasing their new signings alongside existing squad members and coaching staff.

Cuadrat, who took the helm last season, led East Bengal to the finals of both the Durand Cup and Super Cup. Now in his second season, the Spanish manager is focused on clinching trophies in multiple competitions, including the AFC and ISL.

Reflecting on the past year, Cuadrat remarked, "A lot of things have been happening. The main difference is that now there is hope and numerous competitions to fight for." He added that reaching finals this season would no longer be a surprise due to the team’s improved dynamics and belief.

East Bengal FC won the Kalinga Super Cup last season and are set to participate in Asian competitions after nine long years. The team has bolstered their squad by signing ISL 2023-24 Golden Boot winner Dimitrios Diamantakos, top-assist provider Madih Talal, and Durand Cup 2023 Golden Boot winner David Lalhlansanga. Cuadrat praised the squad’s versatility and depth, noting his aim to secure silverware this season.

"This is my seventh season in Indian football," Cuadrat said. "I can say this is one of the best squads I have managed." He emphasized the importance of handling pressure and striving for victories.

The Spaniard pointed out his team’s improved balance compared to last season, focusing on both defensive solidity and sharp attacking play. He highlighted the team’s defensive achievements, including 10 clean sheets last season, and expressed optimism about their offensive prospects this season.

"In the ISL, champions protect their goals and are dangerous in attack," Cuadrat concluded. "With our offensive options, we will create more goal-scoring situations. I'm confident about that." (ANI)
