Warner Bros Discovery Sues NBA Over Media Rights Dispute
Warner Bros Discovery, alongside Turner Broadcasting System, has filed a lawsuit against the NBA over its rejection of a bid for media rights. The NBA's new deal with ESPN, NBCUniversal, and Amazon.com marks the end of a longstanding relationship with TNT Sports.
Warner Bros Discovery and Turner Broadcasting System have initiated legal action against the National Basketball Association, accusing the league of breaching their media rights agreement. The lawsuit was filed in New York on Friday.
The media giant claims the NBA failed to honor its contractual right to match third-party offers, arguing it is in fans' best interest to continue watching NBA content on TNT Sports. In a statement, TNT Sports emphasized the importance of fulfilling this agreement.
On Wednesday, the NBA announced a new 11-year deal, valued at $77 billion, with ESPN, NBCUniversal, and Amazon.com, sidelining TNT Sports and ending a four-decade partnership. The NBA has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
