France Shines in Equestrian Eventing Despite Heavy Rain
France's eventing team delivered an impressive dressage performance, maintaining their position to challenge Britain and Germany for the top spot. Individual leaders Laura Collett and Michael Jung displayed outstanding skills, setting the stage for a tough cross-country event affected by heavy rainfall, which could prove advantageous for the French team.
France's eventing team produced a solid dressage performance on Saturday as they maintained their competitive stance against equestrian powerhouses Britain and Germany. Laura Collett and Michael Jung led the individual competition with stellar performances.
The French team, comprising Karim Florent Laghouag, Stephane Landois, and Nicolas Touzaint, secured third place in the team rankings, buoyed by enthusiastic home supporters braving the rain.
'We've been criticised over our dressage performances for a few years now, but I think we've really done our homework and it's showing today,' said Landois, who scored the seventh-best individual performance of the day. He added that the heavy rain would benefit the French in Sunday's cross-country event.
Britain's team led the rankings after dressage with a combined 66.70 penalties, followed by Germany with 74.10. Ros Canter expressed high expectations for the British team. Laura Collett, with an almost flawless ride, led individually ahead of Michael Jung. Sunday's cross-country promises a challenging course, demanding endurance and risk-taking.
