Indian men's doubles badminton players, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics following the withdrawal of German players Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel due to injury. This leaves Group C with only three pairs, securing Satwik-Chirag's and the Indonesian pair's positions in the next round.
Indian men's doubles badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics. The milestone comes ahead of their final group match, owing to the withdrawal of German pair Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel due to injury.
The scheduled match between the world number three Indians and the German team was canceled following Lamsfuss' knee injury. As per BWF regulations, any matches involving the German duo are considered null, reshuffling Group C into a three-pair competition.
With two pairs advancing from each group, both Satwik-Chirag and the Indonesian duo of Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian have guaranteed their quarterfinal spots. The draw for the knock-out rounds will be conducted on Wednesday, determining upcoming match-ups.
