England Test Head Coach Brendon McCullum lauded the commendable performances of new players, pacer Gus Atkinson, wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith, and spinner Shoaib Bashir, in their 3-0 series win against the West Indies.

The Test series marked a period of transition for England as they introduced fresh talents to their red-ball squad. The opening Test at Lord's was significant as it saw James Anderson retire after a two-decade-long international career. Gus Atkinson emerged as a standout performer, taking 22 wickets and earning the Player of the Series accolade.

Switching roles in the wicket-keeping department, England saw Jamie Smith stepping up to the plate, delivering stellar performances with scores of 70 and 95, and affecting 14 dismissals. Spinner Shoaib Bashir further cemented his position as a key player with a match-winning five-wicket haul in the second Test.

McCullum emphasized the importance of the new talent for the team's continuous improvement. “The newcomers have shown they belong at the international level,” he remarked. Changes were necessary to continue developing the team, rewarding the side with a 3-0 series win.

James Anderson, despite retiring, remained with the team as a fast-bowling mentor. McCullum highlighted Anderson's pivotal role in mentoring the pace attack, showcasing his seamless transition into the coaching setup.

England's victory against the West Indies moved them from the bottom to sixth in the World Test Championship standings with an improved point-percentage. Looking ahead, England faces a packed Test calendar, including series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
