The Global Chess League has revealed its impressive roster of male players for its second season, held from October 3-12 in London. Top names include Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Praggnanandhaa R, promising an exciting and competitive event.

The Global Chess League (GCL) on Thursday announced a star-studded lineup of male players for its second season, set to take place from October 3-12 at Friends House in London. The league is a collaborative effort between the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and Tech Mahindra.

Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Viswanathan Anand will be joined by returning Superstars such as world number four Arjun Erigaisi, world number seven Nodirbek Abdusattorov, world number 12 Praggnanandhaa R, and world number eight Wei Yi. Notably, Praggnanandhaa R, who shone in the first season's prodigy round and was named Player of the Tournament, will compete in the Superstar men's category.

The competition will also see Vidit Gujrathi, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Richard Rapport, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Teimour Radjabov, Alexander Grischuk, Parham Maghsoodloo, and Vladislav Artemiev joining the 12-member Superstar men's list. Praggnanandhaa R expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, highlighting the learning experience from the inaugural event and the unique televised team format.

Former FIDE World Rapid Champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov acknowledged the strength of the player roster and the challenging format of the league. GCL CEO Sameer Pathak expressed delight over the announcement and emphasized the league's innovative format that promotes risk-taking, promising an unforgettable chess spectacle in London.

The franchise-based league features six teams, each comprising one Icon player, two Superstar male players, two Superstar female players, and one prodigy. Teams will compete in a double round-robin format, with each match being decided in a best-of-six board scoring system.
