PV Sindhu's dreams of securing a third Olympic medal crumbled as she exited the Paris Games following a straight-game defeat to China's world number nine, He Bingjiao, in the women's singles pre-quarterfinals on Thursday.

The 29-year-old from Hyderabad struggled to mount a sustainable attack and was outpaced 21-19, 21-14 by Bingjiao in a grueling 56-minute match, reminiscent of their Tokyo Olympic bronze medal clash.

Sindhu, who previously clinched silver and bronze medals in Rio and Tokyo, respectively, had topped her group to enter the knockout stage. However, Bingjiao's aggressive forehand and sharp smashes proved insurmountable, leaving Sindhu unable to counter and ultimately succumbing to defeat.
