Brazil Triumphs Over Japan in Olympic Men's Basketball Opener

Bruno Caboclo delivered an outstanding performance with 33 points and 17 rebounds, leading Brazil to a 102-84 victory against Japan in the Olympic men's basketball tournament opener on Friday. Vitor Benite contributed significantly, adding 19 points to Brazil's tally.

Despite a valiant effort by Japan, led by Josh Hawkinson with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Yuki Kawamura, who finished with 21 points and 10 assists, the absence of their top scorer Rui Hachimura due to a left calf injury markedly impacted their performance.

Japan, having lost all three games in the group stage, finished last in Group B, resulting in their elimination from the tournament. Meanwhile, the U.S. and Canada, competing in Groups C and A respectively, secured their spots in the knockout round. Brazil, now third in Group B, continues its journey in the tournament.
