China's world number four table tennis player, Fan Zhendong, secured the gold medal in the men's singles competition at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Sunday. In the finals, he defeated Sweden's Truls Moregardh by 1-4 (7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8). Despite winning the first game, Moregardh could not maintain the intensity and settled for silver.

Zhendong had previously claimed a gold medal in the men's team event at the Tokyo Olympics and a silver in men's singles. As an individual competitor, he has now gone a step further to win the gold. Zhendong's achievements include eight World Championship golds, two silvers, and two bronzes, with victories in singles, team, and doubles events.

Additionally, Zhendong holds eight World Cup golds and a silver, including four singles titles. The former world number one also boasts eight Asian Games medals with five golds and three silvers, spanning team, doubles, and singles events.

In the bronze medal match, France's Lebrun Felix defeated Brazil's Hugo Calderano 4-0 (11-6, 12-10, 11-7, 11-6), in a contest between the fifth and sixth-ranked paddlers. Meanwhile, Indian paddlers Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula made history by reaching the Round of 16 in women's singles, marking the first time Indian paddlers have achieved this milestone at the Olympics.

Looking ahead, the Indian women's team faces Romania in the Round of 16 on Monday, while the men's team begins its campaign against China on Tuesday.
