Avinash Sable Secures Historic Steeplechase Final Berth at Paris Olympics

Avinash Sable became the first Indian man to qualify for the 3000m steeplechase final, finishing fifth in his heat at the Paris Olympics. Despite a slower time than his personal best, Sable secured his spot. On the other hand, quartermiler Kiran Pahal failed to advance directly in the women's 400m, finishing seventh in her heat.

Avinash Sable made history as the first Indian man to qualify for the 3000m steeplechase final at the Paris Olympics, finishing fifth in his heat with a time of 8:15.43 minutes. Although slower than his personal best of 8:09.91 minutes, Sable's performance secured his place in the final.

Meanwhile, quartermiler Kiran Pahal, celebrating her 24th birthday, finished seventh in her 400m heat, clocking 52.51 seconds. This time fell short of her personal best of 50.92 seconds, thus failing to secure automatic qualification for the semifinals.

A new repechage format introduced at the Paris Olympics offers athletes a second chance to qualify for the semifinals in individual track events ranging from 200m to 1500m, including hurdles. The repechage round for Pahal will be held on Tuesday.
