Olympic Safety Overshadowed by Seine Water Quality Concerns
A planned test run for Olympic athletes to familiarize themselves with the marathon swimming course in the Seine River was canceled due to water quality concerns in the Paris waterway. The decision, confirmed by Paris 2024 spokesperson Anne Descamps, was made by World Aquatics after a successful triathlon mixed relay event in the river.
A test run intended to help Olympic athletes get accustomed to the marathon swimming course in the Seine River was abruptly canceled on Tuesday due to worries about water quality in Paris's major waterway.
Anne Descamps, spokesperson for Paris 2024, affirmed that World Aquatics took the measure to cancel the trial.
This decision follows a triathlon mixed relay event that occurred in the river, covering a shorter distance than the marathon swim course, which is set for Thursday and Friday.
World Triathlon announced data on Tuesday, indicating that when the triathletes competed on Monday, levels of fecal bacteria E. coli and enterococci were within safe limits.
