Iga Swiatek Qualifies for WTA Finals in Riyadh

World number one Iga Swiatek is the first player to qualify for the season-ending WTA Finals in Riyadh. The event will feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams, offering a record prize money of $15.25 million. Swiatek, who aims to defend her title, has had a stellar season with five trophies, including the French Open title and a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

World number one Iga Swiatek has secured her place in the season-ending WTA Finals, making her the first player to qualify for the prestigious event set to take place in Riyadh from Nov. 2-9. The announcement came from the governing body of women's tennis on Wednesday.

The WTA Finals will feature the top eight singles players along with the best doubles teams, offering a record prize money pool of $15.25 million, with forecasts for further increases in the subsequent years following a three-year deal signed with Saudi Arabia in April.

Swiatek, hailing from Poland and aged 23, is set to defend her singles title. She expressed her excitement, noting, "It's a great feeling to qualify for the WTA Finals for the fourth year in a row." Throughout this year, Swiatek has garnered five trophies, including the prestigious French Open title, and she also earned a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. "I hope the performances of the eight best players of the season will give a lot of joy to the fans all over the world," added Swiatek.
