Indian wrestler Antim Panghal suffered a defeat against Turkey's Zeynep Yetgil in the women's 53 kg freestyle round of 16 at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday. Yetgil, a U23 European championship bronze medallist, triumphed on technical superiority, reported Olympics.com.
Panghal still has a chance to compete for a bronze medal through repechage rounds if Yetgil reaches the finals. Meanwhile, India's marathon race walk mixed relay team, comprising Suraj Panwar and Priyanka Goswami, failed to finish their event earlier in the day.
The team faced multiple infractions, ending their race at the 33.4 km mark after the third exchange. The marathon race walk mixed relay saw Spain's duo Alvaro Martin and Maria Perez clinch gold with a time of 2:50:31, while Ecuador and Australia took silver and bronze, respectively. In another setback, javelin thrower Annu Rani, who holds the national record, did not qualify for the final, finishing 15th in Group A.
