According to reports, Panghal handed her accreditation card to her younger sister Nisha, instructing her to retrieve belongings from the Games Village. This act led to their detainment by Village security and subsequent questioning by police. Further complications involved Panghal's coaches Bhagat Singh and Vikas, who were accused of evading a cab fare.

In response to these incidents, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided to return Panghal and her team to India. While the ban is yet to be imposed, the IOA highlighted that comprehensive deliberations would take place once they all safely return home.
