Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat clinched a bronze medal at the ongoing Paris Olympics, a feat hailed by his uncle, Sudhir, as a tribute to Aman's late parents. The 21-year-old, making his Olympic debut, achieved this milestone by defeating Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz with a 13-5 score on Friday, securing India's first wrestling medal for the Paris 2024 Games.
In a conversation with ANI, Sudhir reflected on Aman's arduous journey, noting that the young wrestler faced significant challenges after losing his parents at just 10 years old. He expressed optimism for Aman's future, hoping for a gold medal in subsequent Olympics. 'He missed the gold medal by a little, but he has won the bronze medal for the country. We just pray that he wins the gold medal next time. Aman's life has been full of struggle. He lost his parents at the age of 10, and he has paid tribute to his parents by winning a bronze medal today,' Sudhir stated.
During the match, Puerto Rican grappler Darian Cruz initially led with a single-leg hold. However, Aman made a strong comeback, targeting Cruz's shoulders to gain points. Although Cruz temporarily took the lead with a two-point move, Aman regained control. With 37 seconds remaining, Aman scored additional points, clinching the victory with technical superiority as Cruz's last-ditch move conceded another point.
