Washington Wizards point guard John Wall will undergo season-ending surgery on his left heel, the team announced Saturday night. Wall will be sidelined six to eight months. The surgery will occur sometime next week. Doctors will repair a Haglund's deformity -- a bony enlargement on the back of Wall's heel -- as well as an Achilles tendon injury. A debridement to remove damaged tissue will also be performed.

Wall sat out Friday night's game against the Chicago Bulls, and Wizards coach Scott Brooks said he was slated to see a specialist due to persistent issues with the heel. Wall, 28, reportedly has been dealing with bone spurs in the heel for multiple years. Brooks declined to speculate on the severity of the latest flare-up during his pregame availability on Friday, telling reporters that Wall "has good days and bad days like a lot of guys. He has been able to manage it. It comes and goes. It has been bothering him, so it's time to see a specialist."

Wall also missed a game against the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 10 because of the heel issue. The five-time All-Star is averaging 20.7 points and 8.7 assists in 32 games this season. Washington has struggled to a 13-23 record and is only five games out of last place in the Eastern Conference. "Some days it's great. Some days it's bad," Wall said on Dec. 8 about his heel issues, according to the Washington Post. "You just got to monitor (it) when it's good and when it's bad, don't try to force the issue and play with that one because it's kind of hard. You can't run."
