Pakistan to Honour Olympic Gold Medallist Arshad Nadeem with Hilal-e-Imtiaz
Pakistan will award the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz to athlete Arshad Nadeem for his record-breaking javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024. The government will also issue a commemorative stamp for the 77th Independence Day. This marks Pakistan's first individual Olympic gold in 40 years.
Pakistan will honor ace athlete Arshad Nadeem with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the nation's second highest award, for his remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics 2024. The announcement was made on Saturday.
The government has also planned to issue a commemorative stamp titled ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ to celebrate the 77th Independence Day next week. This stamp will signify Pakistan's commitment to stability and progress.
Nadeem, 27, won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw with a stunning 92.97-meter throw, breaking the previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His achievement brings the first individual Olympic gold to Pakistan in 40 years.
Following directives from President Asif Ali Zardari, a formal request has been sent to the Cabinet Division for the conferment of the award, state media reported. “Arshad Nadeem's remarkable performance has made the nation proud on the global stage,” President Zardari noted in his letter.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also directed the issuance of a commemorative stamp featuring Nadeem’s image alongside Minar-e-Pakistan, the symbol of national unity.
Besides the national honor, Nadeem has been showered with multiple awards and recognitions from various provincial governments. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a cash award and a sports city named after Nadeem in his hometown. Sindh’s government and Sukkur’s mayor also announced comparable honors.
