In Trinidad, persistent rain left South Africa captain Temba Bavuma to lament missed opportunities as his side came up five wickets short of victory against the West Indies in the first Test. Inclement weather disrupted play on all five days, resulting in the loss of 142 overs and denying both teams a chance to climb the ICC World Test Championship standings.

The match concluded in a draw under fading light, with the West Indies trailing by 97 runs, unable to clinch an unlikely win. South Africa, similarly, couldn't secure the final five wickets needed to earn 12 World Test Championship points. The draw, the first in men's Test cricket in over a year, leaves South Africa in seventh place and the West Indies in ninth on the Championship standings.

Despite their efforts, South Africa declared at 173/3 before lunch on the final day in a bid to force a result. Yet, another rain delay and a resilient 92-run innings from Alick Athanaze thwarted their hopes. Bavuma expressed his disappointment, noting the lack of time and challenging pitch conditions. West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite, however, found positives in his team's batting performance, particularly Athanaze's near-century.

Brathwaite voiced pride in his batting lineup, emphasizing the importance of staying positive and adapting to pitch conditions. He praised Athanaze and other players for their effort and planning. The two teams will face off again in the second and final Test starting Thursday in Guyana. (ANI)
