The Paralympics Committee of India (PCI) has named Svayam as its new accessibility partner for the forthcoming Paris Paralympics 2024. The global event, set to take place between 28th August and 8th September 2024, is anticipated to feature more than 4,000 athletes competing in 22 sports, promising a dynamic display of talent.
Svayam's role will be crucial in furthering accessibility and inclusivity in sports. Their partnership with PCI, ongoing for 4-5 years, focuses on ensuring accessible transportation and conducting access audits of selected hotels and buildings in New Delhi where para-players will stay. In a significant contribution, Svayam has donated a fully modified accessible vehicle to PCI to enhance mobility and support for para-athletes.
Expressing excitement over the collaboration, Sminu Jindal, Founder-Chairperson of Svayam, remarked, "Being the Accessibility Partner is both an honor and a responsibility. Our partnership continues to break down barriers and promote dignity and independence for people with reduced mobility. This year too, Svayam will ensure that the dignity of para-players from across the country remains uncompromised, creating an equitable environment for their optimal performance."
Meanwhile, Indian para shuttler Pramod Bhagat will not participate in the Paris Paralympic Games due to an 18-month suspension for violating the Badminton World Federation (BWF) anti-doping regulations. Despite this setback, Bhagat's impressive run at the Para World Championships 2024 saw him clinch one gold and two bronze medals. The Indian contingent overall secured 18 medals, including three gold, four silver, and eleven bronze.
