Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has honoured Paris Olympics gold medallist Arshad Nadeem with a cheque of PKR 100 million and a four-wheeler, bearing the registration number 'PAK 92.97,' according to Geo News. Arshad achieved an Olympic record with a 92.97-meter throw in the men's javelin throw final, clinching the gold medal and surpassing his rival, Neeraj Chopra.

The cheque was presented to Arshad on Tuesday in his hometown, Mian Channu, where he also received an additional PKR 5 million cheque. The event was attended by Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, Special Assistant to the CM Zeeshan Malik, and MPA Sania Ashiq.

Maryam Nawaz had a prolonged conversation with Arshad's mother, Razia Parveen, congratulating her on her son's remarkable achievement. Arshad returned to a hero's welcome at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport on Sunday, with his family, provincial and federal ministers greeting him with a water cannon salute.

Among those who welcomed Arshad at the airport were Federal Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Prime Minister Youth Program Chairman Rana Mashhood, Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima, and Khawaja Saad Rafique. The 27-year-old athlete secured Pakistan's first Olympic medal since the 1992 Barcelona Games and its first in an individual sport with his 92.97-meter gold medal throw, breaking the previous Olympic record set by Denmark's Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008. Grenada's Anderson Peters claimed the bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.

In recognition of his accomplishment, President Asif Ali Zardari has directed that Arshad be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan's second-highest civilian award. Additionally, the federal government has issued a special postage stamp themed 'Azm-e-Istehkam' in his honour. (ANI)
