Australian captain Pat Cummins announced that all-rounders Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh will take on increased bowling responsibilities during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India. This move aims to support the primary bowling trio of Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood throughout what is anticipated to be a highly demanding series.
The eagerly awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off with a day match at Perth Stadium from November 22 to November 26. India has won its last two series in Australia, with victories in 2018-19 and 2020-21. Last season, Australia used an unchanged frontline bowling attack for seven Tests against Pakistan, West Indies, and New Zealand, benefiting from matches that rarely extended to the fifth day.
"Having all-rounders in the team has been invaluable," Cummins told ESPNCricinfo. "We haven't needed to rely on them as much as expected, but this summer might be different. With Cam Green and Mitch Marsh more experienced, we will be utilizing them more." Australia's team selection remains unsettled, especially regarding the top six, but Cummins emphasized the advantage of having multiple bowling options. The series will culminate with the fifth Test at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7, promising an intense finish.
