World number one Jannik Sinner has been cleared of wrongdoing by an independent tribunal after failing two drug tests in March, according to the International Tennis Integrity Authority (ITIA).

The tribunal accepted the Italian player's explanation that the anabolic agent clostebol entered his system through massages and sports therapy from a member of his support team. The ITIA confirmed that Sinner bears no fault or negligence after his physio, Giocomo Naldi, applied an over-the-counter spray containing clostebol to his own skin to treat a small finger wound.

Naldi then administered massages to Sinner without gloves, inadvertently causing contamination. Despite the positive drug tests, Sinner was allowed to continue playing after urgent appeals and scientific consultation confirmed the credence of his explanation. However, his results and rankings from the ATP Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells were disqualified.

The World Anti-Doping Agency and the Italian Anti-Doping Agency may still appeal the decision. Sinner has vowed to continue strict compliance with anti-doping regulations. This case follows a similar incident involving former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep.
