The NFL's annual Black Monday -- the first day after the end of the regular season when teams start firing coaches -- saw six teams fire coaches since Sunday afternoon. Add in the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers, who fired their coaches during the season, and eight NFL franchises -- 25 percent of the 32 teams -- are in the market for a new head coach. Marvin Lewis was dismissed Monday by the Cincinnati Bengals after 16 seasons as coach, the longest-tenured coach let go.

Lewis, 60, had one season remaining on a contract he signed prior to last season. He is the franchise's all-time winningest coach with a record of 131-122-3 but went 0-7 in the playoffs. The franchise last won a playoff game in 1990.

--The Broncos fired coach Vance Joseph after two seasons on the job. Denver finished 6-10 this year, giving Joseph a record of 11-21, a .344 winning percentage.

The Broncos' last playoff game was their Super Bowl victory with Peyton Manning at quarterback in 2016. Denver hired Joseph in January 2017 to replace Gary Kubiak, who retired. "I still believe we have great fans here, our football team has to get better, but we have a lot of good parts on our football team," team president John Elway said. "We can sell that. We have nine picks in the upcoming draft. ... Everything is there. Plus, the fanbase here, the facility, what Colorado is all about."

--Coach Adam Gase was fired by the Miami Dolphins after leading the team for three seasons and posting a 23-25 regular season record, including a 42-17 loss at Buffalo on Sunday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Gase was widely viewed as a top candidate for other openings. The Dolphins announced general manager Chris Grier was promoted and will oversee football operations. Mike Tannenbaum, vice president of football operations, will be reassigned to another position.

--The Arizona Cardinals fired Steve Wilks, making him the first head coach to have his contract terminated by the franchise after one season since Joe Kuharich in 1952.

The move came one day after Arizona's 27-24 loss at Seattle, which left the Cardinals (3-13) with the worst record in the NFL and the No. 1 pick in April's NFL draft. Wilks, 49, was introduced on Jan. 23, 2018, to replace the retiring Bruce Arians, meaning his tenure lasted just 342 days.

--The New York Jets fired coach Todd Bowles on Sunday, hours after the Jets were embarrassed in their season finale by the New England Patriots 38-3.

In four seasons in New York, Bowles went 24-40 and failed to lead the team to the playoffs. In his first season in 2015, the Jets finished 10-6, but successive 5-11 records followed, and they closed this season at 4-12 despite a 3-3 start. Bowles signed a four-year contract in January 2015 when the Jets hired the then-defensive coordinator of the Cardinals. On the final day of the 2017 season, he was given a two-year contract extension through the end of the 2020 season.

--The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the dismissal of coach Dirk Koetter after Sunday's season-ending, 34-32 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He went 19-29 in three seasons. Tampa Bay finished 5-11 this year.

Koetter was informed he was being relieved of his duties during a postgame meeting with team ownership. In confirming Monday that Jameis Winston will remain the starting quarterback for the team in 2019, general manager Jason Licht made it clear the next coach will have to work under that reality.

--In other coaching news, a losing season in Atlanta prompted an overhaul of the Falcons' coaching staff, which began with team firing offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong. Head coach Dan Quinn will take over as defensive coordinator. ... Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer will return next season, according to reports. Zimmer led the Vikings to the NFC championship game in 2017 but missed the playoffs this season. ... Interim head coach Gregg Williams and offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens are candidates to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns. ... The Jacksonville Jaguars fired running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley, NFL.com reported.
