The promotion follows Mohammedan's victory in the I-League last season. The introduction of another Kolkata club also means more 'Kolkata Derbies,' which has excited both players and fans. Bose emphasized the pride and competitive spirit this fosters among the city's clubs.

Mohammedan Sporting, having seen a recent change in ownership with Shrachi Sports Ventures acquiring stakes, aims to finish in the top six to qualify for the playoffs. The ISL season kicks off on September 13, with Mohun Bagan Super Giant facing Mumbai City FC in the opening match in Kolkata.
