Canadian cyclist Michael Woods clinched victory on the 13th stage of the Vuelta a España on Friday with a decisive late breakaway in northwestern Spain's challenging mountains.

Woods excelled on the route from Lugo to Puerto de Ancares, securing his fourth Grand Tour stage win and third in La Vuelta. As the leading group of five riders neared the final gruelling ascent, Woods broke free 4.5 kilometres from the finish line.

Switzerland's Mauro Schmid finished second, unable to match Woods's pace, while Spaniard Marc Soler claimed third place, cheered on by the local audience. Woods celebrated the win as a significant release of built-up pressure, pointing to the red maple leaf on his jersey as he crossed the finish line.
