Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday congratulated Rubina Francis for her outstanding achievement of winning the Bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024, according to an official statement.
Francis achieved a historic milestone on Saturday by becoming the first female pistol shooter from India to win a Paralympic medal, securing bronze in the women's 10m air pistol (SH1) event.
'Her association with the DDA Sirifort Sports Complex, where she practices, has made her triumph all the more special for Delhi, as indeed the DDA,' Saxena noted.
He emphasized the pivotal role the DDA has played in developing sports infrastructure in the national capital, having set up 17 sports complexes and two golf courses that offer top-notch facilities and excellent coaching. According to Saxena, the DDA's efforts over the past three decades have produced numerous outstanding sportspersons, with Rubina Francis being the latest to join this elite group.
Looking to the future, Saxena revealed that the DDA plans to expand sports infrastructure further with the development of Centres of Excellence in various sports such as wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, judo, kabaddi, tennis, shooting, football, and hockey across different sectors of Dwarka. Additionally, a Centre of Excellence in aquatics is being developed in Sector 33, Rohini, along with a public golf course in Sector 24, Dwarka.
