Para-Athlete Sakina Khatun Finishes Seventh in Paris Paralympics Powerlifting

India's Sakina Khatun ended in the seventh position in the women's 45kg powerlifting final at the Paris Paralympics with a lift of 86kg. China's Guo Lingling won gold, setting a new world record. Both Great Britain and Turkey secured silver and bronze medals, respectively.

India's para-athlete Sakina Khatun saw her medal dreams dashed at the Paris Paralympics, finishing seventh in the women's up to 45kg powerlifting final on Wednesday. Khatun managed to lift 86kg successfully in the first round, but could not advance in subsequent attempts. China's Guo Lingling clinched gold with a record-breaking lift of 122kg.

Great Britain's Zoe Newson earned the silver medal, lifting 109kg, while Turkey's Nazmiye Muslu took home the bronze with a lift of 108kg. The event saw participation from nine competitors, with only the bench press included in the para-powerlifting category. Khatun initially led after the first round but eventually dropped to seventh.

In her second attempt, Khatun attempted 90kg but was unsuccessful, receiving two red lights from the judges. Earlier, Kazakhstan's Tursynay Kabyl, who had failed her first attempt, succeeded in lifting 95kg in the second round, surpassing Khatun for the sixth position.

Earlier in the day, India's Parmjeet Kumar also faced disappointment in the men's up to 49 kg category, finishing eighth with a best lift of 150kg. The gold medallist in this category was Jordan's Qarada Omar Sami Hamadeh, lifting 181kg, while Turkey's Abdullah Kayapinar and Vietnam's Le van Cong secured silver and bronze, respectively.
