AIFF Suspends Anwar Ali for Four Months for Illegal Contract Termination
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has imposed a four-month suspension on Anwar Ali for terminating his contract with Mohun Bagan. Delhi FC and East Bengal are jointly liable for compensation. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has imposed a four-month suspension on India international Anwar Ali for illegally terminating his contract with Mohun Bagan. The defender, along with his parent club Delhi FC and East Bengal, is also liable to pay a compensation of Rs 12.90 crore.
The AIFF's Player Status Committee ruled that Delhi FC and East Bengal are banned from registering players for two transfer windows, following Ali's unilateral termination of his loan contract. The termination had sparked controversy, especially after Ali joined East Bengal in a lucrative five-year deal.
Mohun Bagan's complaint led to this decision, with the AIFF setting a 45-day deadline for the payment. Non-compliance will result in further bans. Appeals can be filed with the AIFF Appeals Committee according to their Disciplinary Code. During the stay period, Anwar Ali is eligible to play for East Bengal.
