Arizona Coyotes centre Nick Schmaltz is week-to-week with a lower-body injury and was placed on injured reserve, the team announced Thursday. Schmaltz missed Wednesday's game against Edmonton after playing 16:39 of ice time in a Dec. 30 game against Vegas. It's unclear when he was injured. The 22-year-old has five goals and nine assists in 17 games since being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 25 in exchange for Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini.

He has seven goals and 18 assists in 40 games this season. The 20th overall pick in 2014 by Chicago, Schmaltz has 34 goals and 71 assists in 179 career games, posting 52 points (21 goals) last season with the Blackhawks. The Coyotes recalled centre Laurent Dauphin from the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners earlier Thursday.
