Key Players Set for Irani Cup Clash After Test Decision

Middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel, and pacer Yash Dayal may be released from the Indian team for the Irani Cup if not selected for the second Test against Bangladesh. The Rest of India squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will face Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai from October 1-5.

Several key players, including middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel, and pacer Yash Dayal, may shift focus to the Irani Cup if they're not selected for the second Test against Bangladesh, starting September 27 in Kanpur.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the Rest of India squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. This team will challenge the reigning Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai, in a high-stakes match scheduled from October 1 to 5 in Lucknow.

According to the BCCI statement, Sarfaraz Khan, who has been retained in the national squad for the 2nd Test, will join Mumbai for the Irani Cup if he does not play in Kanpur. The Irani Cup will also see the return of Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur to first-class cricket after surgery.
