SailGP Set to Make Waves with German Debut in 2025

SailGP is making its German debut in Sassnitz, Ruegen, in August 2025. The high-speed sailing event features top sailors racing 50-foot foiling catamarans at over 60 mph. With notable figures like Sebastian Vettel supporting the event, it promises to be a milestone for German sailing fans.

SailGP’s adrenaline-fuelled spectacle is making its much-anticipated German debut in August 2025 in the coastal town of Sassnitz on the island of Ruegen. The event will feature two days of high-octane racing, with some of the world’s best sailors competing in fleet races just off the shore. This marks the first time German waters and fans will experience the thrill of SailGP on Aug. 16-17.

SailGP showcases national teams going head-to-head in cutting-edge, 50-foot foiling catamarans skimming the waves at over 60 mph. Sassnitz will be the newest addition to a list of iconic venues, including Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Sydney, and Geneva.

"Bringing SailGP to Germany is a huge milestone," said SailGP CEO Russell Coutts. "We’re thrilled to give German fans a chance to rally behind their team on home waters for the first time. It’s going to be an incredible event." Notably, four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, co-owner of the Germany SailGP Team, emphasized the significance of the home race. "There’s nothing quite like racing in front of your home crowd," he said. "It will be a huge boost for the team and an opportunity to inspire a new generation of German sailing fans." Led by double Olympic bronze medallist Erik Heil, Germany's SailGP Team aims to prove themselves among the SailGP elite in their second season.
