The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced that the upcoming World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Qatar will not take place in Iran due to escalating regional tensions. Instead, the crucial game has been moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on October 15.

This decision, made in consultation with FIFA and relevant stakeholders, aims to ensure the safety of the teams and officials involved. The Iranian city of Mashhad was initially slated to host the event, but growing unrest compelled the AFC to opt for a neutral venue.

The decision follows a recent AFC ruling that eliminated Mohun Bagan Super Giants from the AFC Champions League Two after the team refused to travel to Iran for a match in Tabriz. Additionally, Iranian media reported that Esteghlal FC must also relocate their Champions League Elite game against Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia to a neutral site.
