Angels extend Anaheim lease through 2020

The Los Angeles Angels and the city of Anaheim have agreed to a one-year lease extension that will keep the club in Angel Stadium through the 2020 season.

This gives the two sides more time to explore long-term ballpark possibilities -- including renovations or a new stadium, according to the Los Angeles Times, which first reported the deal Thursday.

In October, the Angels opted out of a lease provision that would have locked them into the 52-year-old stadium through 2029.

Angels owner Arte Moreno confirmed the lease extension Thursday.

"After meeting with Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu, we realized a one-year extension will give us adequate time to work collaboratively on a long-term relationship," Moreno said in a statement.

Previously known as Anaheim Stadium, the ballpark (capacity 45,477) is the fourth-oldest in baseball after Fenway Park, Wrigley Field and Dodger Stadium.
