The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented a new travel policy that will bar the families of Indian cricket players from joining them during the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, slated for February 15 to March 9. This policy, effective for the first time, restricts player families to tours exceeding 45 days.
With the Indian team set to face Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand during the three-week competition, any deviation from the policy would require pre-approval by the coach, captain, and General Manager of Operations. Past rumors of discipline issues led BCCI to adopt stricter travel guidelines.
Additionally, players are now obliged to adhere to regulations promoting participation in domestic cricket during international breaks. These moves aim to foster discipline and cohesion within the team, with personal staff of players and the coaching team also facing accommodations apart from athletes.
