In an intense face-off during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Afghanistan suffered a significant 107-run defeat to South Africa, yet captain Hashmatullah Shahidi remains optimistic about the future. While Ryan Rickelton's remarkable century and Kagiso Rabada's pivotal three-wicket haul stole the limelight, Afghanistan struggled to chase a daunting 316-run target.

Shahidi acknowledged batting challenges on a tricky Karachi pitch, emphasizing that the toss played a crucial role and highlighting disciplined South African bowling. Despite the setback, the captain praised a gritty performance and stressed the capacity to deliver quality cricket going forward, remaining hopeful about upcoming matches.

South Africa won the toss, choosing to bat, setting a formidable 315/6 benchmark. Key contributions came from Rickelton and skipper Temba Bavuma, supported by Rassie Van Der Dussen and Aiden Markram's middle-order half-centuries. Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Rahmat Shah valiantly led their run-chase with 90 from 92 balls but found little support, as the innings collapsed at 208 in 43.3 overs.
